TL;DR
I have handed flying orb balls to something like four hundred children over the last two years. Most of them get five minutes of novelty and then get left under the sofa. The Orbi is the one that keeps coming back out, and the reason is boring: the throw that makes it return is easy enough that a beginner lands it early, and hard enough to refine that an eleven-year-old keeps practising.
It is sold only through its own offer page, which is a genuine inconvenience. I would still buy it again.
Who it is for, and who it is not for
If your goal is a toy that pulls a child off a screen without an argument, this is the shortest path I know. If your goal is a technical drone with programmable flight, this is not that, and no orb ball is.
Materials and build
The shell is a light plastic cage with an inner rotor. At roughly 26 grams, a mistimed catch to the face registers as a surprise rather than an injury — that single fact is why I am comfortable using these in group sessions with younger children.
It is not indestructible. The manufacturer says as much. A few knocks, bumps and falls are fine; a determined stamp is not.
First session
Switch it on, hold it upright, shake, throw. That is the entire instruction set, and it matters more than it sounds: the kids who quit on flying toys usually quit during setup, not during play.
In my first session, the two eight-year-olds had the basic boomerang return inside three minutes and were arguing over whose turn it was inside five.
How families actually use it
Outdoors in summer, indoors in winter. That is the pattern I see. The LED spin is the reason the evening sessions run long — once it is dark enough, the ball draws a light trail and even the adults start taking turns.
Two balls in one group is noticeably better than one. If your household has more than two children, budget accordingly.

The pitch behind this product is screen time, and the concern is real: leisure screen time roughly doubled in recent years, and Dr. Jason Nagata at the University of California has reported that more screen time is associated with worse mental health and greater stress in teenagers.
A toy does not fix that. What it can do is make the alternative to a screen immediately more appealing for an hour, which is the only mechanism I have ever seen work in practice.
Care and durability
Wipe the cage, keep grit out of the rotor slots, and charge it before it dies rather than storing it flat. Mine has survived a winter of living in a rucksack.
